Drill through Bathroom Tiles RSS

Posted in Handyman Services, Kitchen Fitting, Painting & Decorating on Nov 03

I never cease to be amazed at the variety of bathroom accessories available at hardware stores across the UK these days. Every one of these has at least one fixing hole – if I got that contract I doubt I’d ever look back. Many folk are nervous about drilling through ceramic tiles though, because theFind a Bathroom Fitter on Mr-Skill consequences of cracking one can be quite expensive.

And so they try alternatives like two-sided tape and contact glue. Unfortunately these never work properly because ceramic tiles are highly glazed. Worse still, the accessories come loose, and chip even more expensive fittings when they come crashing down. If you are handy you don’t need to Find a Bathroom Fitter – you just need the right tools and your brain switched on.

• When working above a drainage point like a washbasin or a toilet, insert the plug or lower the seat. Lay down a dust-sheet to make cleaning up afterwards easier too.

HINT – Ceramic tile and masonry dust can permanently stain moist grout, so make sure your work area is dry.

• Gently tap the tile where you intend to drill the hole with something metallic that’s also light. If you hear a hollow sound there’s airspace between the glue. London Bathroom Find a Bathroom Fitter on Mr-SkillFitting Firms train their staff to look for another fixing point when they find this, because tiles break easily over hollows.

• Make a clear mark on the tile where the hole must go with a laundry marker. Make a cross over it with transparent tape that does not have a shiny finish. Tap the tape gently and repeatedly with a new centre punch, until you have scored the ceramic finish beneath it.

• Drill through the hole using a specialist drill bit and an electric drill set off-hammer. Once you are through the glaze you can drill into the tile and wall more quickly. Tidy up the mess, wipe things clean, and you’re good to go!

Mr-Skill is a virtual market place where customers and skilled tradespeople meet. It’s free to the general public, and bids can be up to 30% below general market rates. Click on this link – get Cheap Bathroom Fitting Quotes for your postcode right now!

Smarten Up a Ceran Top RSS

Posted in Kitchen Fitting on Jun 01

The smooth glass-tops fitted to cookers these days are made from a resilient, relatively shock-proof ceramic / glass composite called Ceran. They are becoming increasingly popular due to their efficient heat-transferring properties, ease of Find a Kitchen Fittercleaning and smooth chic good looks, and this is why Kitchen Fitter Quotes always include them as an alternative to consider.

Here’s how to go about keeping them looking good and in tip-top operating shape.

o After cooking, and while it is still warm, scrape the cooking surface clean using the razor-blade scraper supplied by the manufacturer, or a suitable alternative. Make sure to keep this in full contact at all times, and avoid nicking the surface with a corner of the blade. Remove the loosened dirt and allow the top to cool completely.

o Find a Kitchen FitterApply a tablespoon-sized bead of proprietary cleaner to the centre of the worktop and spread it all over with the rough side of a plastic or nylon washing-up sponge. Work this across the entire surface until you no longer feel any resistance caused by dirt.

o Remove all paste and residual debris with a damp kitchen towel. Rinse, wring out and repeat until the worktop is spotlessly clean. Then buff up with a clean dry kitchen towel.

As you go along do remember to inspect the Ceran cooking top for any cracks or deep chips. If you notice any then you should Find a Kitchen Fitter to advise you before you use your cooking top again, because it might be dangerous. By the way my brother who is a Kitchen Fitter in London tells me than any cream cleaner is equally as good, and is a whole lot cheaper too.

Build a Feature Wall RSS

Posted in General Building on Apr 15

Why not splash out and Find a Builder on Mr-Skill to add some texture to your house – you will have no idea how fun this is until you try.

Every second Building Job in London and other larger UK City these days seems to involve an element of special textures applied to inside walls. Unpolished ceramics imitating stone that may be more expensive are becoming increasingly popular. But there are other options too.

To my mind, the use of rough face brick still offers superb opportunities to make an evocative statement. We all have happy childhood memories of sleeping out in barns, and evenings spent in listed pubs when we grew older around genuine Build a Feature Wallfires.

You could achieve other stunning effects as well. How about a reveal around a picture window or exquisite detailing around a feature fireplace. When you review the Builder Quotes you get from Mr-Skill you will be truly astounded at what is possible, and at how relatively inexpensive this can be too.

So, pop down to your local library, surf the internet and buy designer magazines. Somewhere you will spot your dream – after that, it is just a matter of making things happen as you always do. Splash out on your imagination. Dream your interior decorators’ dream. We all have artists living inside of of us. Why not give your personal magician a whirl? You will never know what you could achieve until you let it happen. Happy decorating in 2011.

A New Year’s Resolution – A New Kitchen in 2011 RSS

Posted in Kitchen Fitting on Dec 30

Why not blast off New Year 2011 with a new kitchen for the whole family to enjoy? Maybe when you bought your house you promised you would fix it, but never quite got round to it. Alternatively perhaps your kitchen just needs new cupboard doors and worktops – many people buy a new car every three years so why not apply this philosophy to kitchens too.

Go on, click on find a kitchen fitter and go straight to a list of rated tradespeople in your area on standby to assist you. Before you do so though, here is a short list of the most important thoughts you should consider:

o Do you want a central cooking area or one against the wall? With all the chaos involved in stripping out an old kitchen you may as well get it right at the same time too.

o If you have the room for it, include a family centre, or as least a breakfast nook where kids can gather after school for a snack and perhaps a spot of television. A modern kitchen is far more than just a space where Cook works – it is also the hub of many modern homes.

o Colour is often free, and you should take up the opportunity to make your personal statement with it. After all, are not different coloured floor laminates the same price, and does that not also apply to paints and ceramic tiles too? The sky’s the limit when you use your imagination – Kitchen Fitters London recommends searching Google Images using the keyword kitchen for fresh new ideas.

o To avoid disappointment you must have a budget for your kitchen upgrade. Bear in mind though that you are investing money in improving durable fixed property as opposed to buying consumer goods that may not last forever. A quality kitchen is often the deal maker in a home sale, while a cheap and shoddy upgrade may break the deal. Our advice is to do it properly, or wait until you can afford a decent job.

Did we inspire you to splash out on a new kitchen? You will be glad you did after the fuss and bother is all over. Your first step is to get kitchen fitter quotes on Mr-Skill. The next is to be bold, use your imagination and think out the box. Have fun, enjoy.
