A beautiful modern bathroom is not only pleasant on the eye – it’s going to add real value to your home too. Experts say that when it comes to selling property quickly, buyers put new bathrooms and kitchens at the top of their wish lists. The Mr-Skill website is a good place to find a bathroom fitter, because we screen all our members before we accept them.
Here then, are four easy steps to getting your bathroom upgraded:
Why not check with Mr-Skill before you accept a quotation – our members are offering incredible bargains right now, and you could save up to 25% on normal prices!
Firstly – Measure your existing bathroom and record the layout on a sketch. Of course, you don’t have to follow the existing set-up with your new bathroom. However it is important to understand the existing piping arrangements, as it can save pounds if you don’t need a major refit of the plumbing too.
Take your plan with you when you visit bathroom-fitting shops in your area. The purpose of this is to get ideas in terms of what would look nice for you, and how much it would cost. Good bathroom-fitting shops will be only too pleased to help with free designs. Remember to ask your supplier if their tradespersons are criminal records bureau checked, and that they are registered and qualified and gas safe accredited too.
Secondly – A home survey is next on the list, and it will enable your preferred supplier to fully discuss and understand your requirements. From the survey, you will receive a bathroom fitting quotation, which you need to review carefully before signing agreement. Remember to request any changes in writing. One of our regular London bathroom fitters advises you to ask about special offers before finally accepting.
Thirdly – Stripping out your old bathroom and installing your new one requires a little forward planning. How long will it take? Do you have a second bathroom to use during renovations? Who’s responsible for rubble removal, and for the final clean up too?
Finally – Assuming that everything goes to plan, you need to know about the guarantee for the workmanship and the bathroom fittings as well. Don’t be shy to ask, because the completed job needs to be just like your hard earned money – and that’s perfect!

That’s right. The snow may be lying heavily on the ground this year, but the days of warmer Spring are not far away. This is traditionally the season for clearing everything out that you do not want. Perhaps you should start planning earlier, before all the waste-removal firms are booked out. We offer an exemplary service in this regard. Mr-Skill is able to offer the following range of helpful services when you are in the mood to tidy up.
Waste Management – The professional removal of potentially toxic industrial and commercial waste to Council specifications. Our specialists are equipped with all pre-requisite waste management safety gear and will complete their task responsibly.
Garbage Disposal – Sorting of non-toxic “safe” commercial and domestic garbage into categories, and delivering to re-processing plants and Council garbage disposal tips in accordance with your local bylaws.
Rubbish Removal – Disposal of general “clean” rubbish in an environmentally friendly way according to local regulations. Many town councils award street rubbish removal contracts to our agents.
Garden Clean-Ups – A broad-based horticultural service. When the snow has melted (and that won’t be too long now) you’ll be glad you booked a garden clean-up and de-weeding service while contractors had room on their calendars still. As with all our contracts, the refuse will be responsibly disposed.
Unlike similar websites we charge consumers nothing extra for our service. In fact the overwhelming feedback is that our contractors charge lower rates. That means you win twice when you contact Mr-Skill. You win the first time because you get a reliable service. The second benefit is it costs you less.
Can you afford not to investigate this further? What’s more, you get your space back too.

There’s nothing quite as irritating as losing keys, or battling with sticking locks without a plan to bail you out. In fact, at times like this you sometimes feel like hitting your head in frustration against a wall. If in the City, you’ll need to Find a London Locksmith to bail you out, and that could cost you a pretty penny too. This might all have been avoidable, if you had followed these simple tips:
- Have your outside locks serviced regularly. You can Obtain a Locksmith Quote by clicking on the link. There’s no charge for this service, and the rates you receive will be highly competitive too.
- Inspect your keys regularly for signs of damage. A bent key is brittle, and could suddenly snap in two pieces. A worn one could eventually fail to work, just when you need it most
- Make up a spare set of keys. Click on this link to Find a Locksmith in your immediate area. Once you have a spare set, entrust them to a neighbour or some other trustworthy person.
TIP – Never leave your spare keys hidden on your property or in your car. Trust me, crooks know every place that you could think of, and you can even find these listed on the internet. Act wisely in this regard.
Mr-Skill is a tradesperson-listing service that is freely available to members of the general public, and provides a Bulletin Board where you can post your jobs. And that includes far more than just having keys cut too.
In fact, we provide Links to Every Trade Available, and deliver our service FREE.

Despite what the world’s philosophers say, the future is often the same as the past, and that’s because humankind simply can’t think laterally. We keep on polluting the air, fighting pointless wars and eating unhealthily too. The same failing applies to many remodelled kitchens that I have seen as well.
I wish I could have a free pint down at the local pub (naturally taken over a responsible period of time) for every brand new kitchen that I’ve seen festooned with double adaptors and ugly cables, when just a little planning could have avoided all of that. Most London Kitchen Fitters that I’ve dealt with over many years have a simple take on this. If there’s a work surface, they say, that’s not too close to water, then fit an electric outlet socket in the wall right next to it.
After you have sorted all these and similar things out in your mind, decided on the layout for your kitchen and got your Kitchen Fitter Quotes from Mr-Skill, the next thing to do is to appoint a kitchen fitting firm, and to iron all the nitty-gritty out with them before they start.
And here I’d like to make a special plea on behalf of all the world’s tradespeople. You can Find a Kitchen Fitter who looks perfect, but, if you don’t allow the poor fellow the space he needs to do the job and put up with a modicum of mess, then your chances are reasonably good that you could end up with an unenthusiastic job.
So please let them park their van outside the front door and wander in and out with dusty feet. Give them space to leave their tools overnight somewhere safe and dry, and don’t forget that friendly cup of tea every time they take their breaks. That way, chances are that you could get a happy kitchen, and that, I think, is where all happy families belong.
Good luck with your new kitchen project from Mr-Skill.

All of us start off in life with the simplest of workshops, especially when we move away from parents to our first own homes, and need to make a quick adjustment. If we are lucky enough we have a garage to store our tools. Otherwise we have to keep the few tools we have in bedroom cupboards, use the kitchen table as a workbench, and generally risk criticism from you-know-who. If you have passed this point in time and are ready to upgrade, here are a few tips to get you salivating.
I agree with you that it sounds like Taking Coals to Newcastle to Find a Carpenter to help you set things up. On the other hand, if you are busy and lack the heavy tools you need to do the job, this could just make a great deal of sense. Mr-Skill makes it really easy to get a couple of Carpentry Quotes, and you don’t have to accept any if they turn out over budget.
You need to have a proper plan before you start. By this I mean of scheme of things where you have sufficient working and storage space that’s properly separated for safety. If you are planning to afford a lathe next Spring, by all means plan it in. Who knows, you may influence somebody’s Christmas Gift list.
This time you really should do something about decent extraction. Modern power tools create a deal of dust and most of this is bad for us because of the chemicals present. I know a Carpenter in London who specializes in creating home workshops for the rich and famous. He refuses any job, no matter how grand it may seem to be, if extraction is not part of the basic plan.
Lighting and electricity are an essential part of any workshop, and here there should be no skimping for safety’s sake. You need comprehensive lighting without shadows, and a ring of counter-top-height plug sockets all the way around the room. Do remember to ask Mr-Skill to send an Electrician around to do this bit for you. Some power tools are still are not properly earthed back to ground.
Keeping the floor clean is another thing to think about. A screed over an under-floor heating grid is the best dream that I could think of, and if you bolt everything to the walls there’s even a chance that the floor could get swept from time to time. Besides, how else will you ever find the springs and screws that mysteriously go to ground?

It may sound obvious to some people, but for many the penny has not dropped yet. Moving Quotes are based on distance travelled, but also on the items to be moved. While no removalist worth their salt in business is likely to tell you not to pack up everything in the house, the bald truth is that it makes no sense at all to pay to move things that you no longer need. Here’s how to go about not wasting money in this way.
o Homes are seldom the same shape and size. Obtain a floor plan of the one that you are moving to, and compare this to the home that you are moving from. If there is no room for Auntie’s grand piano that nobody plays anymore, why pay to move it? Sell it instead. The same goes for the exercise machine that you no longer use.
o If you Find a Man with a Van who is willing to take the curtains down and hang them up again, it could be an idea to check first whether they will fit the windows where you are moving to. If not, sell them to the new people moving in, or send them down to the Church Bazaar. Either way will save you money.
o Finally, about your clutter (or junk as a Removalist in London that I know quite well likes to call it). Because of the labour involved in packing and unpacking household smalls, and the risk of damage too, this can be where a removal firm could really stack up their bill. Before you even start to Find a Removal Firm, first get in the cleaners and throw out all the junk. You may have to be merciless, so get ready to be tough!
You will be surprised at how much money you could save this way. When you get to your destination and have finally settled in, why not spend some of your savings on the moving-in celebration of the year?

Like most things in life, a satisfactory timber deck begins with a solid foundation. Similarly, a successful career may begin at a good primary school, and a victory in a debating competition often depends on well-founded logic. I myself am sometimes equally guilty of wanting to get started without planning properly – do this when contemplating a wooden outside deck and you really do invite trouble.
An old hand I knew as a lad and who was a Joiner in London loved to say that every journey begins with the first step, and that when it came to woodwork that first step was down to the timber yard in his mind. After all, it is pointless planning a job unless you can get the right timber, and in the lengths your job needs too. Plan your spacing correctly and help save trees as opposed to accumulating off-cuts.
At this stage in the project there is no substitute to mocking things up on the ground with string or whitewash so that you can visualise exactly where things will go. If you Find a Joiner that you hired setting in the support posts without doing this first and discussing the results with you, best you cut your losses and start again.
A Joinery Quote must define the type, treatment, dimensions and quality of the timbering to be used on a wooden deck, and the quality of the fixings too. Insist on timber cut from the heart of a tree, and materials that will not rust. While this may increase the project cost by 50%, it could more than treble the lifespan of the finished product.
With everything agreed and the posts set in concrete, the frame should be built up in a matter of days. Inspect the work as it goes along and do not allow any planks to be attached until you are completely satisfied. Keep an eye on the planks themselves too. They must not be split, warped or twisted. Reject those that are, because you specified the best.
The rest should be plain sailing and you can probably leave it to the decking firm to continue undisturbed for the rest of the job. This will be partly because they can see that you know what you are about, but mainly because you found them on Mr-Skill.

When people built new homes in days gone past, especially right after the Second World War ended they seldom realised how long their work would last. Walls were not quite as damp-proof as they are today, and plaster mixes were not quite as adhesive either. The result is often mouldy cracking rendering falling off in places. Where this is bad, the whole lot must come off so that you can Find a Plasterer to start all over again.
o Proper preparation is half the battle won when it comes to applying rendering, and this is why some tradespersons will not even quote for Plastering Jobs in London until the old covering is chipped away. They know of many possible sins beneath the surface that may even double the time a plastering job can take.
o First cover the floor from edge to edge with a tarpaulin or thick plastic sheet, and tape this thoroughly in position. Large pieces of rendering may come down in single pieces, and you need to protect the floor. Moreover the last thing you need to hear is the sound of something scrunching beneath the sheet directly on a polished surface.
o Take safety precautions before you start. Wear eye and face protection to avoid harmful chips and dust. Wear heavy duty gloves and boots and make sure that your tools are in good order too.
o Start at the top of a wall and have a plan of what to do if a large section or rendering comes loose. Work slowly and carefully making sure that you remove all remnants as you go along. If you do not, then you will have the worst bit left over just as you thought that you had finished.
After the last piece of plaster is removed you can tidy up and get Plastering Quotes from Mr-Skill, secure in the knowledge that your preparation is good, and that you have saved yourself a tidy sum of money, hopefully had some fun and learned a few new useful tricks and skills along the way.

Loft Conversions are as popular all over the United Kingdom as they ever were. That’s because the current economic recession has ended up with two or even three generations sharing a single home, and many of us no longer having the money to buy a larger house. While rated Building Quotes from Mr-Skill should be competitive, it’s always handy to know how to compare them.
The following are the factors driving loft prices for different designs in different towns.
o Everything is more expensive in the City, and that is why a Builder in London will charge more for the same job that one in a small town. There are many reasons for this which I shall not go into here.
o Another factor is design. Things to consider include roof styles and finishes, window types, staircase designs and whether central heating and a bathroom are required too.
o Size is a critical determinant of cost too. However cost per square foot seldom increases in a straight line, meaning that you should make the rooms a decent size while you are at it.
Before you engage a builder and pay that hefty first deposit you must do a proper due diligence first. Is the builder registered? Have they done work like this before? And, most importantly do the neighbours agree and has the Council approved the plans?
The current state of the economy and the depressed construction market makes this an excellent time to get Builder Quotes for an affordable loft conversion. At Mr-Skill our advice remains the same – get 5 quotes and consider the 3 middle ones. That way you avoid a builder who cuts corners, and one who is not really interested in doing any more loft conversion work.
