Four Steps to a New Bathroom RSS

Posted in Plumbing, Heating & Gas on Jun 14

A beautiful modern bathroom is not only pleasant on the eye – it’s going to add real value to your home too. Experts say that when it comes to selling property quickly, buyers put new bathrooms and kitchens at the top of their wish lists. The Mr-Skill website is a good place to find a bathroom fitter, because we screen all our members before we accept them.

Here then, are four easy steps to getting your bathroom upgraded:

Why not check with Mr-Skill before you accept a quotation – our members are offering incredible bargains right now, and you could save up to 25% on normal prices! Find a bathroom fitter on Mr-Skill

Firstly – Measure your existing bathroom and record the layout on a sketch. Of course, you don’t have to follow the existing set-up with your new bathroom. However it is important to understand the existing piping arrangements, as it can save pounds if you don’t need a major refit of the plumbing too.

Take your plan with you when you visit bathroom-fitting shops in your area. The purpose of this is to get ideas in terms of what would look nice for you, and how much it would cost. Good bathroom-fitting shops will be only too pleased to help with free designs. Remember to ask your supplier if their tradespersons are criminal records bureau checked, and that they are registered and qualified and gas safe accredited too.

Secondly – A home survey is next on the list, and it will enable your preferred supplier to fully discuss and understand your requirements. From the survey, you will receive a bathroom fitting quotation, which you need to review carefully before signing agreement.Find a bathroom fitter on Mr-Skill Remember to request any changes in writing. One of our regular London bathroom fitters advises you to ask about special offers before finally accepting.

Thirdly – Stripping out your old bathroom and installing your new one requires a little forward planning. How long will it take? Do you have a second bathroom to use during renovations? Who’s responsible for rubble removal, and for the final clean up too?

Finally – Assuming that everything goes to plan, you need to know about the guarantee for the workmanship and the bathroom fittings as well. Don’t be shy to ask, because the completed job needs to be just like your hard earned money – and that’s perfect!

Maintain a Budget on Building Jobs RSS

Posted in General Building on Nov 15

It’s tempting, when you get a builder in, to forget about what you agreed to in the original Builders Quote, and to let the job roll into all other kinds of minor detail. The builder will be inclined to be helpful in the beginning. Later though resentment may creep in, Find a Builder on Mr-Skillwith neither party inclined to broach the subject of a price increase.

At Mr-Skill we cannot emphasise enough that you need to have a budget and a specification behind your budget too. If you fail to do so, then the heat of disagreement could end up cooking up a real storm.

• No London Builder worth his salt will quote for any job without a specification, and in 99% of the time this will include a drawing too. If you are unable to provide at least a hand-drawn sketch with measurements, then with respect perhaps you have not yet decided what you want.

• The next step is to Find a Builder to provide an estimate against your sketch and supporting detail. We use the word estimate deliberately because a building job almost inevitably comes up against unexpected hassles. Find a Builder on Mr-SkillWhen this happens you need to be flexible, because the thick concrete covering the drain is at your home, and not the builder’s after all.

• This is why professional developers and construction companies often add a contingency provision to a job. The percentage value of this varies from job-to-job, and the amount is expensed by mutual agreement as the work proceeds. It simply is not fair to do this any other way – and fair is the little word that makes such a huge difference.

Mr-Skill exists as a free service to UK residents who are hoping to Find a Reputable Builder. Builders pay a highly competitive rate to be listed on our website. Our contribution is to introduce the parties to each other. Shop with us, and enjoy the prospects of a Successful Building Job.

Make a Good Move RSS

Posted in Moving Homes & Hauliers, Project Advice on Dec 10

Moving is a traumatic experience at the best of times. If you are planning to move house in the next few weeks then it is time to find a removalist at Mr-Skill. This is because a good removalist usually has a busy schedule and just about every man-with-a-man is booked out a week ahead. Here are some pointers to ensure that the whole family sleeps in the new home together the first night.

o Recognise that quality costs money, and that this applies to removal firms too. Choose to ignore the fly-by-nights who advertise in the free local press and promise the earth for nothing. It is much safer from an insurance point of view especially to find a man-with-a-van who is registered and listed on Mr-Skill.

o I once lived in a part of the City where the pace of life was hectic and there were many unreliable suppliers. I moved several times and learned that removalists London discriminators were the quality of their vehicles and the amount of effort they put into training. I eventually discovered that a quick visit to their yard provided the answers instantly.

o Planning is the key to most things, and that applies to moving home too. If you do not plan, I promise you from experience that your move will be a disaster. Decide in advance which furniture will go into which room, and make a sketch plan of where it will stand. If you label the boxes the same way too, it will not take long to pack them out and settle down to work.

Moving does not have to be a hassle. In fact, it can be the perfect opportunity to finally sort things out and know where they are too. When you are ready, you can find the perfect firm to help you pack your prized possessions and move them to your new home on Mr Skill. After the dust has settled you will agree that quality is worth the price.
