Carbon monoxide is a colourless, tasteless odourless gas that is the product of incomplete combustion of carbon-based fuels. These fuels include gas, oil, coal and wood, but all are however safe when used correctly. According to the Health and Safety Executive, approximately twenty people die in Britain every year from carbon monoxide poisoning caused by wrongly installed gas appliances, and flues that have not been properly maintained and cleaned. If there ever was a reason to Find a Heating Engineer, then surely this is it.
These people all probably died from a sudden intake of the deadly gas that prevented their blood from carrying oxygen to their tissues, skin and other organs. The gas may however also kill almost imperceptibly over a longer period of slow leaks. These are the sensible precautions you could follow to avoid this happening to you and your family.
o Make sure that any work carried out in your home is done by a Gas Safe registered engineer who is competent to do the particular job. You can get Gas Fitting Quotes right here.
o Arrange for regular inspections by a Gas Safe registered firm as recommended by them.
o Ensure that any room containing a gas appliance is adequately ventilated, and that any chimneys, vents and flues do not become blocked. If you have one, get your chimney swept annually,
o Never use any heating appliance that burns carbon-based fuel without a flue installed by a Gas Safe registered fitter. Paraffin and cabinet heaters are never completely safe and should not be used.
o Fossil-burning appliances outside the remit of Gas-Safe registered fitters should be regularly inspected by another person competent to do the work.
There could hardly be a London Plumber who does not also recommend the installation of audible carbon monoxide alarms in every room, although these are no substitute for proper maintenance. This is because in the event of sudden failure, carbon monoxide could kill you in your sleep. Sobering words today from Mr-Skill.

Take Care of Your Roof
A roof is almost like a second skin. It protects us from the rain, the heat, the snow and sleet. When it fails though, we have just our own skin left, and that can be a miserable business on a cold, wet rainy night. The moral of my story is that you need to look after your roof. The easiest way is to get a few Roofers Quotes from a convenient place like Mr-Skill and choose the roof specialists that appeal to you. When they arrive, remember to discuss the following ponts in detail.
o Is the roof covering intact and well attached? Tiles, sheets, thatch and all other roofing materials need firm fixing. If not, you will have leaks, and worse still a gust of wind might even carry a section of roof away.
o Are the ridges still in good condition? Roofs settle over time and ridges sag. They are not just decorative either – lose a ridge and your roof opens up to the sky.
o What about the fascias at gable ends? These are not simply decorative. They also protect the timbers at the roof ends from wind and rain.
o My old friend who still does the occasional Roofing Job in London reckons that hips and valleys are the areas to watch out for most. Hips are secondary ridges. Valleys carry double water and need thorough flashing too.
o Points where chimneys and vent pipes penetrate a roof can be problematic as well, especially on the upper side if flashing fails. Remember, water going through a roof is moistening timbers and will eventually pass through your ceiling down into your home.
Do not wait until your roof starts leaking unexpectedly on a cold, wet winter’s night. Get Roofing Quotes from Mr-Skill. Get peace of mind too. Sleep well at night. A well-built roof is like a faithful spouse or partner. Look after both, as well as you possibly can.

An electric tumble dryer is a great asset in the British climate where washing can hang for days without drying and airing properly. The only problem with these marvellous appliances is that they pump moist air into the house where it steams up windows and fertilises the mold. The answer, pump the moist hot air outside – to do this Find a Plumber or read on below.
o Find a convenient place against an outside wall to stand your dryer, preferably where the lowest part of the dryer vent lines up with a point outside at least one foot off the ground. Before proceeding, make sure there are no pipes, cables or combustible materials between the dryer and outside.
o Carefully measure and very accurately mark a circle on the inside wall exactly opposite your dryer vent, then drill a ¼ inch hole through to the outside directly in the middle. Hire an appropriate hole saw from your local hardware shop (or several saws depending on the construction method of your home) and drill a short way from the inside. Finish the hole off by drilling from the outside making sure that the tool is cutting horizontally and allowing it to cool off from time to time. If you get as right as a Plumber in London may, the two holes will line up perfectly.
o Insert the insulated ducting through the wall and attach it to the outside vent. Attached this vent in turn to the wall in a way that it can be removed for servicing. Returning inside, fit a collar to the duct inside and you are ready to connect up to your dryer.
Expert Tip As lint builds up inside the duct it creates a fire hazard to be taken very seriously. Avoid trouble – clean your vent out twice a year and if you are unsure how to do this get a Plumber Quote. Don’t give fire a place to start!
